Dear all rawfood enthusiasts!
Hope you all had a great start into the new year. With abundance of rawfood events and workshops happening in January, I hope you are inspired and excited to share your special dish at our February potluck meetup. As love is one of the most crucial ingredients for any rawfood dishes, I think it would be appropriate to host our potluck on the day when we celebrate LOVE!
If you have been a regular, you probably noticed that the size of our potlucks have increased tremendously over the past few months. I want to thank you all for your enthusiasm and genuine support. That said, as we move forward to a new year, I believe it is time to reevaluate some of the old rules and set up a few new ones to make the potluck "fair" for everyone (especially to those who contribute a lot of money/effort preparing dishes.)
When we first started our potluck, we usually suggest people who are new to raw food to bring a big bowl of fruits. But now I feel it is time to make changes. If you are new to rawfood, I would suggest you to look at different websites for recipes. Search for simple recipes that don't require a lot of ingredients.
If you feel intimidated by the recipes, feel free to contact me or post a message on board to ask for suggestions. The discussion board is open for dialogue. If you don't have the kitchen essentials (ie. Highspeed Blender, Food Processor...), we have great news for you! We will have all the rawfood kitchen essentials available at the venue. All you have to do is look up a recipes that you are interested in making, bring the ingredients to the potluck (at 5pm), and we would be delighted to show you how to create the dish.
In terms of ingredients, I want to stress one very important note: please try to use ONLY ORGANIC PRODUCE AND PRODUCTS! As we emphasize and promote a healthy raw vegan diet, it only makes sense if we consume organic food. (who wants to put pesticide in their body anywayconfused I have had people telling me they had seen others bringing conventional fruits to potlucks (rawfoodists are very sensitive to the quality of food wink) So please try to make your dishes as organic as possible.
If this is your first time and you prefer not to bring a dish, our suggested donation is $5. However, those who have been coming more than once but will not be bringing an organic raw vegan dish, we will be collecting $10 from you. This is only fair to all the ones who spend $20 on a dish. We will have a registration table at the entrance.
So if you are new and want to learn how to make a raw dish with your favourite ingredients, come at 5pm and you will get to make your first raw dish with our support.
I apologize if this message sounded a bit authoritative. I just think it is time for us (individuals and the meetup group) to take a bigger step towards a healthier and more conscious life in 2009. If you have any concerns or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
